BOTOX® Injections | BOTOX ® Cosmetic is a purified protein that has the capability of preventing unwanted muscle action. In it's pure form it is a toxin, but for cosmetic use it is safe, highly-diluted injectable solution that relaxes muscles. It is a popular non-surgical injection. Facial wrinkles and lines typically appear every time you laugh, smile, or frown, and as you age, these creases remain visible. These dynamic lines can now be dramatically softened. | Risks of Botox ® Injection procedure | | | Typically the amount of BOTOX® and side effects and BOTOX® danger remains low. Any BOTOX® side effects can typically only last 6 months at a maximum, because BOTOX® treatments are temporary. People with neuromuscular disorders should consult with your physician carefully before BOTOX® treatment, as cardiovascular problems may arise. Likewise, those with cardiovascular disease should also pay special attention. Some patients have been known to experience the side effects of BOTOX® of bruising at the site of the injection. The most commonBOTOX® side effects following the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic for glabellar lines are headache (13.3%), respiratory infection (3.5%), temporary eyelid droop (3.2%), nausea (3.0%), and flu syndrome (2.0%). Blepharoptosis is consistent with the pharmacologic action of BOTOX® Cosmetic and may be technique related. In rare occurences BOTOX® cosmetic can spread into neighboring muscles and cause temporary paralysis. In less that 1% of patients, this can cause drooping of the eyelid. |
| Botox ® Injection procedure | | | - Typically no anesthetic is needed for Botox ® injections. A small amount of Botox ® is administered using a very fine needle. Most patients experience very minimal discomfort. Anesthetic creams and special cooling devices are available to increase your comfort.
- In general, no recovery time is needed. Botox ® treatments may be administered during a lunch break. You will be instructed not to rub the treated area for a couple of hours after the treatment. It is also a good idea to try to 'exercise' the treated muscles for the first few hours following the treatment, as this will increase the effectiveness of the Botox ® treatment.
- It takes 4-5 days for the Botox ® to start to take effect, and it may take up to 2 weeks to see the full effects of Botox ®. Botox ® results generally last between 3-6 months.
